It’s Never Too Late To Be Who You Might’ve Been

Ray Ban Clubmasters | ASOS Bomber

I’m sitting here writing this post during my last week at my Mon – Fri office job. My LAST WEEK. My last week of the Monday – Friday, 9-5.30 sat behind a desk all day grind, the rat race whatever you refer to it as, I’m done with it.

And before you jump to conclusions, no I’m not becoming a full time blogger (I mean one can dream right ha!) No, I am in fact going back about 3 years in my life. For those of you that have been with me for a while you may know that a few years ago I had a change very similar to this, I gave up the 9-5.30 ‘security’ in favour of retraining as a hairdresser.

Hairdressing is something that has just always been in me, I can’t explain it really but it’s that thing that you can’t ignore, that thing that’s always niggling at you, that ‘calling’ I suppose. However, it’s something I never pursued and in all honesty, I’m not really sure why. It was just never a viable option back in my college days, yes girls did it but I felt like I wanted that uni experience and that hairdressing would be somewhat ‘limiting’ for someone like me.

Oh how wrong I was. It wasn’t until I started retraining and even starting the job that I’m about to leave now that I realised just how vast this industry is. Now I’m not about to start 5000 word post on all the many areas of hairdressing there is to pursue but really, it’s endless, with only you setting the barriers for yourself. And that’s the beauty of it, it’s one of the rare careers where you really are in control, whatever you want to do with it, you can, there is absolutely no reason why you can’t pursue and become very successful in any area of hairdressing especially with social media on hand.

So that’s what’s happening. I just wanted to update you really and let you all know that it really is never too late to do what you want to do, be the person you might’ve been because when it comes to opportunities, the world really is your oyster, who’s got time to waste being unhappy and although it may seem like the biggest uphill struggle to finally reach that place called ‘there’, believe me if you want something bad enough things will happen for you, actually let me change that as it’s one thing to want, it’s quite another to actually do, so what I mean is if you work hard enough at something despite all the challenges, all you need to do is keep going, and things will happen, as things always do. We make a tonne of excuses as to why we can’t do, or can’t find something to do that will ultimately lead us to genuine happiness. Sometimes you just have to wake and realise, the only thing standing in your way is you.

‘A year from now, you will wish you’d started today
